Just wanted to let you know that we all had a really good time in France. We thought your house was great, everything we wanted and so close to all amenities. We’ve been to many gites and very often they are really out in the sticks. It was good to have everything to hand.

We visited quite a few of the places you mentioned, including Oradour sure Glanes. In the past we have visited the landing beaches in Normandy, the trenches in the Somme, numerous war memorials etc but found Oradour quite unique and very moving. Probably because it was a residential area as opposed to a battle field. Also went to LImoges, Benoit , Bellac etc etc. In fact we got around quite a bit! Usually ending up in the bar in the square where we met some interesting people ( both French and British).

As you will see from your visitors’ book we were invited by one of the butchers opposite to a square dance a few kilometres away at Bois Mande. Not our usual thing but we had fun, John was even lent a guitar to join in the jamming session! (by the way the beef was good too!)

So, as you can gather everything was just great. Thanks again

PS Thought your housekeeper’s husband (Michael?) was very helpful and quite a character. We had a good natter, mostly about where we live as he knew it from some years back.

Just a quick note to say thank you very much for letting us stay in your place in France, we had a lovely time. Your advice and notes on what to do and how things in the house worked were very useful and comprehensive. We went to Limoges, Oradour sur glane, various lakes, and local villages and regularly utilised two of the Boulangeries! The house is well stocked and the wine / cheese provided on arrival were both much appreciated!

We recently stayed for two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Have travelled to quite a few french regions and were looking for authentic french experience. Located in small village in beautiful countryside with hundreds of villages to explore. Plenty of walks, great food and so much history. We found the house to be comfortable and enjoyed the well equipped kitchen, bbq, plenty of reading material and big windows with shutters. Would highly recommend artisan boulangerie down the street! Having english speaking hostess and local contact made all arrangements very easy. Also within easy striking distance of Paris. Owner was particularly helpful with suggested day trips and local information.

The house was perfect in everyway – comfortable, well heated and plenty of room for six people, but there was just Jill and I, and importantly for a ‘news junkie’ like myself Satellite Channels as well as local TV. The other advantages of the house is that, if you run short of bread, milk, meat or just want to go to the chemist or doctor, then all you do is fall out of the front door and into the street – it’s all there – and the people are most friendly and accommodating, particularly when you mention that you are Australian. They speak little English but all that adds to the glamour of the visit because now, you must try and speak theirs. While there we fanned out each day – to some fantastic Medieval towns, perched high up on the hills; to Aubusson to see the Tapisteries; to Limoges and the porcelain and especially the old town – unfortunately, being winter and a Sunday, the porcelain factories were closed but we saw enough of their works in the shops. I took Jill to Oradour Sur Gland – the little village that experienced one of the horrors of the 2nd World War – where a division of the Nazi Panzer Division in what seems to have been a reprisal for the deaths of two of their soldiers by the French Underground, herded 640 men, women and children – men in to a barn where they were all machine gunned down, and the women and children into the local Church, which was then boarded up and set on fire. At the end of the War, General de Gaulle decreed that the town, which had been totally destroyed and burnt, be left as it was for future generations to see of Man’s inhumanity to Man. It certainly is moving and it affected Jill on seeing it. The countryside surrounding our little house was beautiful, and cloaked in a white cape of snow

We enjoyed our stay thoroughly. This property has everything required and is very comfortable. It is in a great location and it is easy to travel through the surrounding area which we found to be so very beautiful. We would have no problem recommending the property.

We had a great holiday thank you with excellent weather for most of the week (mid 20s on some days!) Due to the volcano we decided to abandon the flights and take our own car. Although it was 1500 extra miles I like driving and we had a night in Ashford on the way down and a night in Calais on the way back – 2 days extra holiday. The house was very comfortable and we had no problems with anything. We liked the location – not just in the village but also in the Region. Went exploring every day. Enjoyed the fair at Les Herolles. Gigi was helpful as was Bernadette at the Butchers although she doesn’t speak any English. Their Faux Fillet was superb! If we decide to return to the region we would not hesitate to stay at yours again.

This is a gorgeous house set in a completely authentic French village. It’s set up incredibly comfortably with everything that you could possibly want – large gourmet kitchen with state of the art equipment, comfy chairs and beds, lovely quality linen etc. The owners have also taken a lot of trouble to provide information and recommendations for touring, markets, restaurants etc, which made it very easy to make sure that we made the most of our holiday. We did some great day trips to the Dordogne and Limousin, wandering through picturesque villages, and also spent plenty of time lounging, eating and drinking with our group of friends!

We stayed in this house for a week, over the last few days of December, 2009, and through New Year’s Eve 2010. We had a wonderful week, the house was extremely comfortable and well equipped. We rented a car and took several day trips. The owners have left a lot of very helpful information and suggested itineraries about the region, and we followed their advice and explored a lot of the picturesque towns in Limousin and down towards the Dordogne. Our day trip to Sarlat was especially memorable. The weather that time of year was quite cold and wet, but the house is very warm and dry with a nice big kitchen. and we did have some nicer sunnier days where it was quite pleasant to be out and about. As Americans living in Paris we are accustomed to urban living here and were thrilled with the space, and the beautiful rolling hills and little towns. We’d highly recommend it.

Before I comment on the lovely home we stayed in… I must describe this group of travelers. It was me, Grandma, my daughter, my 14 yr. old granddaughter and 13 yr. old niece. We come from 3 different areas of the U.S. After a hectic and wonderful tour around Paris, we found the St. Sulpice house delightful… bright, clean, easy to maintain. The house was very welcoming; the kitchen well stocked with cooking equipment and basic essentials such as spices. 2 patisseries and a couple of grocers just steps from the home, with a butcher shop right across the street. The local market had an amazing variety of coffee and cheeses for such a small town. I wanted to fill a bag with groceries to bring home. The beds are comfortable. The entertainment center is well equipped with fine DVDs and CD’s, well used by all of us, and the maps and books were very helpful. We did not spend enough time in Limousin, the time we did was enjoyable. It was quaint seeing residents of the town walking from the store with wicker baskets filled with their daily provisions. Do say bonjour and bonsoir to all the good folks in town. They are very friendly. We went to Limoges and to Perigueux. Both the cities offered a wide variety of restaurant choices. Poitiers is just north of here. I definitely would do Limoges for a full day, not on a Sunday, when most everything is closed. It’s a great mix of middle ages and current. I would go to Perigueux again as well, probably for two days, great restaurants and shops.

I stayed here with some friends and had a fantastic time! French Dreaming is lovely and has everything you need for a relaxed stay. The house is pretty much smack bang in the middle of Saint Sulpice so everything the town has to offer is only a short walk away. The butchers shop is pretty much directly across the street and a very nice bakery is only a 10 second walk away. You are also very close to the small supermarket and there’s even an ATM in this town. I don’t speak a lot of French so I couldn’t really converse with the locals but in my limited contact with them I found them to be friendly and approachable. There are a lot of interesting places to see in the broader area and you’ll generally find that you are no more than a two or three hours drive from them. This is a lovely part of France with small towns sprinkled all around the rolling green hills. Saint Sulpice is perhaps a five minute drive from a main motorway which makes it easy to get around. The owners provide quite a bit of information to help you find things of interest and there’s even a big map of France on the kitchen wall to help you get your bearings. I liked Limousin, it’s a big town so has everything you need plus there are a lot of lovely buildings to see and small streets lined with shops and restaurants to explore. French Dreaming is great and is the ideal base for your day trip exploring of this part of France. Highly recommended.

We were dreaming of a white Christmas (Dec 08) and we almost got it at French Dreaming, St Sulpice (only out by one day). If you haven’t discovered the Limousin yet then this is your big opportunity! French Dreaming is an extremely well presented and fitted out “maison de village” in a village that has everything you need for your stay (boulanger, patisserie, boucherie, etc). And it’s central to a lot of new touring experiences in central western France. We loved Limoges with its markets, shops and restaurants.

We spent a lovely week at French Dreaming, St Sulpice in May 2008. Beautiful weather, amazingly green countryside and a terrific base from which to get out and see the region. We explored nearby towns, ate in a chateau restaurant and checked out the market at Limoges (great city half an hour from St Sulpice). The house is equipped with everything you need and makes for cosy, stylish and affordable accommodation for six people.
